Sift 6-1/2 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking soda, 2 teaspoons salt and 1 cup sugar, brown or white. Mix 1 cup dark molasses, 3/4 cup butter and 1/4 cup warm water. Beat until well blended. Add 1-1/2 teaspoon. vanilla, then gradually beat in dry ingredients, mixing to form a soft dough. Chill for one hour or more. Roll out on floured board ? inch thick. Cut with cookie cutter. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 10 minutes
